3 Tips for Starting (Or Adding) a Service-Based Pet Business
We love a good monthly theme at Pet Boss Nation®, and this month, we wanted to dig into niches in the pet industry!
In the Pet Boss Club®, we’re talking all things…(drumroll please 🥁🥁🥁)…
Doggy daycare!
All month, we’re offering new content drops, business ideas, and MORE, whether our members already run a doggy daycare, want to add the service to an existing business, or want to shift gears entirely and start a new business from scratch!
But if you’re not a Club member, we’re not going to leave you hanging either.

Yup, you still get juicy (like smothered in bone broth juicy) content just for visiting the blog.
🌟BONUS🌟 – These tips (and the content offered in the Pet Boss Club®) can easily be applied to any service-based pet business!
So if you run a service-based pet business or you’re thinking about starting one, here are three of our best tips to keep in mind:
1. Building your client list will take some time and trust-building.
Dog daycare, training, grooming… it doesn’t matter what the service is. Building trust with pet owners will be a significant first step in building your business!
You can start building trust through your marketing. Speak to your ideal customer via social media, an email list, and by getting out into the community and showing them why they should trust you. Give them tours of your facility, if you have one. Show them what their pet is missing out on. Offer them an incentive to try your service over a competitor’s, and when they do, make sure you knock their socks off to keep them coming back!
2. There’s money in the add-ons.
Don’t underestimate the revenue you can bring in by creating unique add-on services that set you apart from the pack!
Many pet owners love to go above and beyond for their best fur-iend. If they book your services, it will never hurt to upsell add-ons to pique their interest. Bonus points if you can put them on a monthly package plan that auto renews! It’s like a service subscription they use or lose, but it benefits both paw-ties. A win-win for everyone!
3. Build a relationship with a medical facility.
Accidents happen when caring for pets! Reach out to local medical facilities (for pets AND humans) to establish a relationship. This allows you to know where you’ll go in the event of an emergency vs. panicking or delaying help in the moment. While cultivating those business relationships, you can find ways to build trust in your local community and find opportunities to cross-promote with your new biz buddies!
