5 Ways to Optimize Your Personal Facebook Profile To Promote Your Pet Business
Are you using social media to market your pet business? It’s so relevant and part of our everyday lives, so chances are good that you are in some way.
If you’re using Facebook, you likely have a business page set up, and hopefully, you’re posting to it regularly (and if you need some help, check out these handy marketing tools).
But what does your personal Facebook profile say about you?
Would your friends on Facebook know you’re a pet business owner?
Are any of them your customers?
Do they refer their friends to you on Facebook?
As a small business owner, your job is a HUGE part of your life, so why not talk about it to your closest friends and acquaintances? Let them know loudly and proudly that you’re a pet business owner!
In fact, you’re bound to find some loyal customers this way. People want to buy from someone they like, know, and trust. They want to support local businesses. They want to know about you and your pet business!
Here are 5 simple ways you can optimize your personal Facebook account to drive traffic to your pet business and connect with your ideal customer:
1. Branded profile and cover photos.
A picture says a thousand words… specifically, your profile picture! Update both your profile and cover photos to reflect your brand. It could be a photo of you with your logo overlaid (you can use Canva for this), a photo of you in front of your pet retail shop, or a photo from an event you hosted… get creative, but make sure it screams, “I own this pet business!”. Make it clear. Make it fun. Make it reflect your brand!
Then, make sure you utilize the captions of these photos to introduce yourself, your business, and tag your business’ profile directly. Tell people what you do, and give them a call to action, like visiting your website, or downloading a freebie you offer. For a great example, check out Candace’s caption on her profile photo.
2. Connect your business page to your personal page.
Did you know you can connect your personal page directly to your business page by listing yourself as the business owner?
Under your personal page’s “About” section, you can add work and education information. When listing your occupation, you can list yourself as the owner of a business, and tag the business directly. When someone looks at your profile, not only can they see that you’re the proud business owner, but they can click on your business name and be taken directly to the Facebook page!
3. Fill out your “Bio” and “About Me” sections.
Take every opportunity to talk about your business on your personal page! There are two sections you can utilize to introduce yourself and your business.
Your “Bio” can be edited by going to your personal profile and clicking “Edit Profile” to the right of your profile picture (below it on mobile).
Your “About Me” section can be edited by going to the “About” tab on your profile, clicking “Details About You”, and editing the “About You” portion.
Again, talk about your business, your story, and your brand. Include direct links. Anyone who visits your page and reads these sections should have no doubt about what you do, why you do it, and where they can find your business online.
4. Post about your business!
Don’t be shy– post about your business on your personal page! Your Facebook friends want to celebrate your life wins with you. Show them what you work on day in and day out. Share both life and business milestones. Tell the story of opening your business and how far you’ve come. Establish yourself as the go-to pet industry professional and watch the referrals from your pals start rolling in! Don’t stop reminding your friends about what you do, and you’ll eventually be the first person they think of when a pet-related question or opportunity arises!
5. Make everything business-related public.
Facebook gives you lots of setting options for what you want your audience to see! Not every post on your personal profile has to be set to “public”, but if you are promoting your pet business, you’ll want to make sure people can see it!
On any post you’d like to make public, tap in the upper-righthand corner, and click “Change Audience”. From there, you can choose to set it to “public” so that anyone who comes to your profile, whether they’re on your friend list or not, can see it and share it!
And that’s it, Pet Boss! Those are five really simple and quick steps you can take to ensure your personal Facebook profile is working to spread the word about your pet business. Take a few minutes to implement these today!
